It's Time to Plant Blueberries!

Blueberry season extends from late June through September, according to Oregon State University Extension. Choose two or more varieties that bloom at different times for maximum harvest. Blueberries do more than produce fruit, they offer three seasons of interest in the landscape.

February, March, November and December are the best months to plant dormant blueberry bushes, according to Clemson University Cooperative Extension.

Where to PlantSelect a site in full sun with well-drained soil that is high in organic matter. Blueberries grow best in acidic soil with a pH of 4.5 to 5.5, according to Oregon State University Extension.

How to Plant Plant spacing is dependent on variety. The spacing between plants can range from 4 to 6 feet apart. The space between rows ranges between 8 and 12 feet apart. It is best to purchase potted blueberry plants and to plant them at the same depth they were in the pot.
